My Name is Pilitome, written and directed by Vela Manusaute is a story about a young Niuean boy’s experiences of visiting his homeland for the first time. It’s a story about trying to reconcile one’s identity with their homeland despite being brought up in New Zealand and having very little contact with one’s culture and language as a first generation New Zealand born citizen. Vela brought the struggles most of our Niuean children, (born and living overseas) would feel regarding their identity to life in a poignant and humorous live play.
The actors – Haanz Jackson, Iasea Latu, Glen Jackson, Leki Burke, Io Aleke Faavae and Vela have came back to Niue specifically for the Niue Arts & Cultural Festival through the support of Dr Colin Tukuitoga.
Fakaaue lahi for the show! We really enjoyed it 🙂
