Practitioners and supporters of inshore fisheries management gathered at SPC in Noumea last week to discuss the future of coastal and inshore #fisheries management. Vital issues regarding the role of Pacific communities in fisheries management, #food security and #livelihoods were on the agenda.

Representatives of the Office of the Pacific Ocean Commissioner in the Forum Secretariat participated in this discussion, and noted the significance of the workshop in terms of progress towards Pacific Leadersai??i?? calls for implementation of integrated coastal resources management arrangements that draw on the strengths and traditions of community, district, provincial and national levels of government to achieve sustainable island life (Framework for a Pacific Oceanscape, Action 3A).

The workshop was staged by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community in partnership with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research, World Fish, the University of Wollongong and the Locally-Managed Marine Area Network.
